SUMMER 2008
Judge Carroll Kelly Named
New Conference President
Carroll Kelly
The Conference congratulates Miami-Dade Judge Carroll J. Kelly as the new President for 2008-2009.

A University of Miami graduate from 1989, Judge Kelly came to Miami from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, where she majored in government and economics. At St. Lawrence, she was selected to study a semester in Kenya for six months in an academic and cultural exchange program.

Our new president comes to the top leadership post with excellent credentials. As a new graduate from UM Law School, Judge Kelly began her professional life as an intern for The Honorable Judge Eugene Spellman, Federal District Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. After a successful internship with Judge Spellman, she was recruited by Fine Jacobson Schwartz Nash & Block as an associate in the litigation department with concentration in both civil and criminal state and federal litigation.

Her personal injury expertise was recognized by Richman Greer Weil Brumbaugh Mirabito & Christensen, P.A., where she worked four years in personal injury litigation. Her trial skills were legend. She was honored and praised for excellent discovery and trial skills.

Realizing a calling to public service, Judge Kelly was elected to the County bench in 1999, and assigned to Domestic Violence and Criminal divisions by Chief Judge Joe Farina.

Judge Kelly has been on the faculty for many judicial colleges and law conferences. She has taught at the Advanced Judicial College, the Florida Judicial College, the Conference of County Court Judges, the Supreme Court of Florida, and the University of Miami School of Law, where she has taught the Trial Advocacy Program and the Pretrial Litigation Skills.

Our new president is active in charity work. She participates in the United Way of Dade County, the Dade County Bar Association, the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, the Cuban American Bar, the Partnership for Professionalism, the "Put Something Back-Pro Bono Project", and the American Association of University Women.

Judge Kelly has received many awards for her support and education of the legal and judicial community. She was honored in 2002 with the UM "Women Who Make A Difference Award"; in 2003, she received the "President's Award" from the Conference of County Court Judges; in 2006, she received Dade County's "In the Company of Women Award" and, that same year she was honored with the YWCA's "Community Service Award."

The Conference is proud and honored to have Judge Kelly as our new President.

Congratulations, Judge Kelly!
